Triangle X Summer 2019: Howdy from our Head Wrangler and Assistant Head Wrangler!

Triangle X Summer 2019: Howdy from our Head Wrangler and Assistant Head Wrangler!

Letter from Head and Assistant Head Wrangler!

Winter has come and gone and now it’s time for Triangle X employees to start heading back to the ranch! Yesterday, it was snowing and today, there’s not a cloud in the sky!  We know that the extra snow and rain during April and May are good things though. These unpredictable spring conditions bring beautiful landscapes and very soon the wildflowers will be in bloom again!

Although preseason weather can be pretty crazy, it’s not stopping the staff! In the corals, the wranglers are working to clear trails, fix fences, and haul all 120 horses from our winter pasture back up to the ranch! On the river, guides are readying the rafts and spending lots of time scouting the river. Because we had the snowiest February on record and 505 inches of total snowfall this past winter, the waters on the Snake River are very high right now from the melting snow. The packers are working to train new pack mules and getting camping gear ready. The rest of the TX staff is busy prepping for a great summer ahead! And how could we forget Izzy and Harley, our ranch hounds?  They are back assuming their positions outside the kitchen backdoor waiting for Chefs Tom and Larry to throw them some bacon!

We are very excited to have new and old faces working at the ranch this summer! Throughout this month, we will be introducing some of the staff via blogs and social media!  To start the new season of Staff Spotlight, here are a few words from our head and assistant head wranglers!  Enjoy!

Howdy!

My name is Tessa Riley and I have the honor of being the Assistant to the Head Wrangler this year! Talk about a dream job! I will also be leading the Kid’s Corral, and let me tell ya there is never a dull moment and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

I’ve been a guest at Triangle X since 2005, and ever since then I was sure of the fact that one day I was going to work at the ranch.  With this being my second summer at the ranch I am checking it off the bucket list! Now instead of a week flying by at the ranch, I feel that my summers fly by. From square dancing (my absolute favorite ranch activity… and no I’m not joking) to loping down the racetrack, working at the ranch has far exceeded all of my expectations.

A little bit about me: I am from Nelson County Virginia. My house essentially backs up to George Washington National Forest and I’m just minutes from Shenandoah National Park. This means that I am lucky enough to be surrounded by mountains year round. On our land we are the proud owners of five mini horses, two dogs, two cats, a rabbit, and right now we are trying to nurture three displaced Robin eggs. I’m still working on getting a horse I can ride at home, but luckily I have all summer to sit on a horse. Some of my hobbies are illustrating children’s books, freelance graphic design, running, and I just renovated a kitchen! I am looking forward to getting to know all of you this summer. I know how incredible this place is as a guest and as an employee and I want to do everything I can to make your trip unforgettable.

I’ll see y’all on the dance floor!

-Tessa

Yeee Haawwww!

Howdy everyone! My name is Patrick Souder, and I am pleased to announce myself at your service as Head Wrangler of Triangle X Ranch for the 2019 season!

I can’t wait to see all our returners for another year of fun in the sun!…or rain…or hail… Well all that really matters is we’re having fun! For those of you who will be visiting for the first time, here’s a little about myself:

This year will mark my sixth summer at Triangle X Ranch, and it has become a home away from home. I couldn’t have found a more different area from my hometown of Elk Grove Village, IL, but feels like home all the same. The rich family ranch tradition the Turner family continually upholds has been an inspiration to myself and many others.

I started my horseback career at Medieval Times: Dinner and Tournament in the Chicagoland area. This is where I honed my horseback skills as well as jousting for two years (don’t worry, we will not be jousting at the ranch). Needing a change, I sought out the Wild West, which landed me here at Triangle X. I have spent five fabulous years with fantastic people and look forward to more excitement and adventure at the ranch. So drop the city slicker attire, buy some cowboy boots and sturdy hat, and join us at Triangle X Ranch!
